GTC Africa PS2 | Global Touring Challenge | PlayStation 2 | Rage Software | 2002 | Rally Racing | Subaru | Mitsubishi | Complete with Manual | PAL UK
Confirmed working tested before listing. Black label. Complete with manual.
A rally and touring car racer from Rage Software, the Sheffield studio behind the Striker football series. GTC Africa takes the action off the tarmac and into some of the most hostile driving environments you can put a car through dusty African plains, jungle tracks, lagoon routes and open safari terrain, all rendered with the kind of atmospheric dust and dirt effects that were genuinely impressive at PS2 launch era.
The game features 19 championship circuits spread across those exotic African settings, plus an additional Challenge mode with 11 further tracks and unique gameplay variants that give it some extra replay value beyond the main competition. Car handling sits somewhere between arcade and simulation accessible enough to pick up quickly, with enough slide and weight to feel satisfying on loose surfaces.
The licensed car roster is a highlight: Subaru Impreza, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Ford and Pontiac all appear with official branding, which was a meaningful selling point for a game of this budget tier. Two-player split-screen is supported, and the age rating is 3+, making it an easy one to pull out with a younger co-driver.
Rage Software folded in 2003, shortly after GTC Africa's release, which makes this a small piece of PS2 development history one of the last titles from a studio that had been making games since the early 90s.
Not a hidden gem but a solid, unpretentious off-road racer with good licensed content and a genuinely unusual setting for the genre.
