One of the PS2's defining early titles and a genuine landmark in Capcom's history. Onimusha: Warlords launched in 2002 as the game that proved the PS2 could deliver cinematic, atmospheric action on a scale nobody had seen from a console. It sold over two million copies in its first year and established a franchise that would run across four mainline entries.

The premise blends feudal Japanese history with supernatural horror in a way that feels completely its own. You play as Samanosuke Akechi a samurai sent to rescue a princess from Inabayama Castle, only to find the fortress overrun by demonic forces serving the warlord Nobunaga Oda. The castle becomes a labyrinth of puzzles, traps and increasingly powerful enemies, each defeated demon yielding souls you absorb to power up your weapons and abilities.

The combat is direct and satisfying it draws obvious comparisons to Resident Evil in its structure (fixed camera angles, resource management, limited inventory) but plays faster and more aggressively than Capcom's survival horror series. The absorption mechanic adds a rhythm to every fight: kill cleanly and quickly before the soul orbs fade, or lose the upgrade opportunity. It keeps the pace sharp even when the puzzles slow things down.

The mo-cap work on Samanosuke used Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro as the facial reference model, giving the character an unusually naturalistic look for the era. The cinematics hold up well.

A Platinum pressing means this was a confirmed bestseller it earned that badge. A great entry point for anyone who missed it first time around, or a clean replacement copy for series fans.
