Peter Jackson's King Kong PS2 | PlayStation 2 | Michel Ancel | Ubisoft | 2005 | Film Tie-In | Action Adventure | PAL UK
Confirmed working tested before listing.
Developed by Michel Ancel the creator of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil Peter Jackson's King Kong is widely regarded as one of the best film tie-in games ever made, and it's not hard to see why.
The game splits its time between two very different experiences. As Jack Driscoll you play in first-person, almost entirely without a HUD no health bar, no ammo counter, no waypoints. You survive Skull Island on instinct, using spears, bones and scavenged weapons against giant insects, V-Rexes and creatures that will kill you in seconds if you're not paying attention. The atmosphere is oppressive and genuinely tense. As Kong, the camera pulls back to third-person and the power fantasy flips completely you're unstoppable, tearing through enemies, hurling boulders, and battling V-Rexes in the jungle canopy. The contrast between the two halves is the game's masterstroke.
Peter Jackson was directly involved in production, and the film's cast including Naomi Watts and Adrien Brody provided their likenesses and voices. It covers all the key moments of the 2005 film while adding Skull Island sequences that expand on the world.
If you've ever wanted a film tie-in that actually felt like a proper game rather than a rushed cash-in, this is one of the rare ones that delivered.
