Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time PS2 | PlayStation 2 | Platinum | Ubisoft | Jordan Mechner | 2003 | Action Adventure | PAL UK

£5.99
Limited Availability

Confirmed working tested before listing. Platinum edition. No manual disc and case only.

One of the most acclaimed action-adventure games of the PS2 era, and it holds up. Sands of Time reinvented the Prince of Persia series from the ground up fluid parkour movement across palace walls and pillars, cinematic swordplay, and the Dagger of Time at the centre of everything. Make a mistake, rewind a few seconds and try again. It sounds like a small thing but it fundamentally changes the feel of the whole game less frustrating, more playful, more willing to experiment.

The story is told in retrospect, the Prince narrating events from an unknown point in the future. That framing device gives the whole thing an atmosphere most games don't bother with a fairy-tale quality that sits somewhere between One Thousand and One Nights and a Ridley Scott film. The palace of Azad is a genuinely beautiful environment to pick through, and the puzzle design is clever enough that solving each room feels earned rather than obvious.

Combat uses the environment as much as your blade wall-runs into strikes, pole-vaults over enemies, vaulting off their backs mid-fight. It flows in a way that still feels ahead of its time. Jordan Mechner, creator of the original 1989 game, was directly involved in the story and design.

A stone-cold classic, and a great entry point if you've never played it. Followed by Warrior Within and Two Thrones if you want the full trilogy.
