Vegvisir Nordic Compass Viking Rune Embroidered Iron-On Patch | Handmade | Retrosheep
A handmade embroidered patch bearing the Vegvisir the ancient Norse runic compass, formed from eight Viking rune staves and used historically as a symbol of protection and guidance. Made by hand at Retrosheep in South Wales, this is a one-of-a-kind piece. Only one was ever made, and what you see in the photos is the exact item you will receive.
The Vegvisir, whose name translates from Icelandic as 'wayfinder' or 'sign post', was believed by the Norse to guide its bearer through storms and rough terrain, ensuring they would always find their way home. As a design it has enduring power the symmetry of the eight staves radiating from the centre gives it a timeless, compass-like quality that translates beautifully into embroidery. Gold trim on a green backing gives this piece a rich, earthy look that suits the subject perfectly.
At approximately 3.5 inches it's a versatile size detailed enough to carry the full complexity of the symbol without overwhelming a garment. It sits well on a jacket, bag, shirt collar, or anywhere you want to carry a piece of Norse heritage with you.
Application tips: Use a hot iron on a firm surface, press firmly for 3040 seconds without steam, and allow to cool fully before handling. Finishing with a few stitches around the edge after ironing is recommended for long-term durability.
