Dreamsong is where Samura begins to crystallise the themes of honor, love, duty, and what forces us to keep living that will define the rest of the series. At the centre of this volume is Makie Otono-Tachibana a natural-born killer bred to be a geisha, supremely gifted with a sword, arguably more dangerous than Manji himself. Her infatuation has led her to a life of wrong choices, and the collision between her and Manji is one of the finest character studies in the whole series. Samura makes it clear there will be no clean resolution, no easy redemption just two people trapped by the lives they've been given, fighting anyway.
The original Dark Horse single-volume editions are out of print and increasingly scarce in this condition.
